a letter to the editor in Eye from June 19, 2003 issue.

The next week there was a counter attack by m@b readers.

Re: "@ compl@int" (Letters, June 19). What people who don't like m@b don't understand is that not all comic strips are about making you laugh. I think most of his strips are funny, but mainly they are slices of life, like the stories your friends tell you at the end of the day. I read m@b's book recently and, though I did laugh out loud a number of times, I found that the book just made me happy. But really, if you don't think getting hit with donuts is funny, I don't think you smile enough. LINDSAY GIBB

The only thing lame here is that someone has so little appreciation of well-written observational humour that they feel compelled to waste readers' time by insulting a gifted artist. JN

M@b rocks! DIRK SOETERIK

Please consider this a vote of support for the enlightened, entertaining and, yes, educational cartoon that is m@b. It's funny and it makes you think, and these days thought and laughter often seem in short supply. SAM McCAIG
