m@b NAMED "BEST BET" BY EYE MAGAZINE
November 22, 2001:

Eye magazine, one of Toronto's two main alt. news weeklies, named the m@b release party one of the city's Best Bets. I was shocked to see the size of the image that they used -- it was like a half page ad. Anyway, It also included a small review of the comic and what to expect at the show.

"It's been three years since Matthew Blackett published his first issue of his semi-autobiographical comic, m@b -- pronounced like his nickname (Matt B). Blackett is part of the new generation of Toronto cartoonists (heirs to the Chester Brown/Joe Matt/Seth throne), and his strips usually consist of three panel vignettes that are all set-up. Confused yet amused by the absurdities or urban existence, or finding your circle of friends your surrogate family? m@b is a comic about your life. As cute as the situations get, they always ring true.

"Blackett is all set to release the 13th issue in the series, Please don't kill my cat. Since the comics are given away for free (at Soundscapes and other fine locations in Toronto), fund raising parties are necessary to cover the production costs. Saturday's party features music by local indie-rock quartet Raising the Fawn, whose songs echo m@b's sentiments at their most wistful. Tunes will be spun by soul brother No. 1 DJ Heavy Early."
