H@PPY @NNIVERS@RY
He's a busy boy, that m@b (a.k.a. Matthew
Blackett). He's the art director of the Toronto Public Space Committee's
commodious new magazine spacing, launched just last week (see "Space
invaders" in the Dec. 4 issue). And, in case you've missed it in these
very pages, he still cartoons his eponymous strip, m@b, which celebrates
its 5th anniversary Thursday, Dec. 11 at Clinton's Tavern (593 Bloor W).
As per standard for a m@b bash, the show opens with a little night music
(c/o frenzied freestyler Chris Mills, under the alias Just Like the Movies)
before the tributes are rolled out. "It's been fun doing the comic
this long," Blackett says, "and I plan to go for as long as I
feel I'm capturing what makes life special." He's also got a new mini
to plug, a double issue this time, which should bring newbies up to speed.
